Lavin Love :: H&M Autumn 2010

If H&M wasn't fashionable enough on it's own its ability to team up with major designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Commes De Garcons and Sonia Rykiel keeps them in demand. This autumn expect an even bigger fashion frenzy when Lanvin for H&M hits stores on November 23. The Parisian label is collaborating with the brand under artistic director Albar Elbaz and designer Lucas Ossendrijver and will feature both womenswear and menswear. Lanvin is easily on of the most influential designers of the 21st century so it will be such a treat to have it at such easy access. Albar described the collection as translating " the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less...what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public" (H&M.com). You can hear more of his thoughts of the collection on Lavin's website as well as view his work for previous collections and you can preview of Lavin for H&M fashion show at 8:00 November 2 on H&M.com.

If you can't wait for Lanvin 's debut H&M has more than enough to chose from in store right now. We've all seen the commericals of well dress models primping themselves to Erykah Badu singing Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters and those stylish pieces are are from H&M's Autumn 2010 collection. This fall you will find over sized cardigans, denim and leather variations, neutral tones, belts, soft chiffons, floral, utility styles and over the shoulder bags.

White Carpet: VMA's 2010

The MTV Video Movie Awards are always a star studded event but this year there a lack of shine. From Ke$ha's taking out the trash ensemble and Lady Gaga's rotting meat I was less than impressed with the fashions of this years white carpet. Even the always fabulous Kim Kardashian bored us in a beige ensemble, Rhianna who always rocks it out caused me concern when she dawned a long pink tutu, fire engine red hair and a sparkly head band (she must have been taking tips from Ke$ha backstage) and Katy Perry looked more like a member of the ice capades than a pop princess. Although there were no great fashion moments to take note of, a few of my favorite starlets did not a disappoint and salvaged this years carpet from being an utter disaster.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER:
What I love about these two looks is that both Ciara and Eva Pigford took a risk for the VMA' with funky feathers, sheer bodices and sky high platforms.

SIMPLY CHIC:
Simple is always chic especially in black or white. These ladies keep it classy with out being boring by incorporating trendy elements like lace and leather with lots of leg.

SILVER BELLES:
Audrina Patridge and Selena Gomez prove that silver is sexy and at little extra bling is never a bad thing!

DO wear white

Why keep white in your wardrobe? It's crisp, clean, contemporary and a great neutral to wear with your favorite fall colors. This years hottest designers cast white as a constant in their collections. Contrary to popular belief white is a season less shade that can be worn all year round. Pick pieces in leather, thick wools, furs and chunky knits in line with the season.

But even more intimidating than the color "no white pants after labor day" is an urban myth. HOLD ONTO TO YOUR WHITE JEANS. Denim is always a staple to every wardrobe so don't toss your bright whites just because there are leaves on the ground. To stay fall fresh pair your whites with chunky knits, fur and leather.Use white as base and layer up with deep colors and multiple textures. Don't be afraid to wear an all white look and use accessories for a pop of color and interest.

See how I plan to wear my favorites this season:

Runway to Hallway

Although the summer is sneaking away from us and classes are in session there is a bright side to back to school fever, another excuse to shop! It is the best time to rummage the racks for summer sales and pick up new trends for the fall. The Alice + Olivia fall 2010 collection is perfect inspiration for your new wardrobe if you will be headed to campus this year. The looks featured still capture the chic,whimsical, ultra feminine style the brand is known for but with increased variety by mixing those after 5 pieces with everyday items for outfits that are not only stylish but totally wearable. Each style has a combination of sparkle and edge that is cool for class and anywhere else you might need to be this fall.

Most importantly you can achieve these styles and save money by: #1 Recycling, You already have sweaters, tights and tees because they are staples. #2 Layering, change it up and get more out of your favorite party dress by throwing a baggy t shirt over it or pair a sparkly top under comfy a cardigan. #3 Trend watch, buy only your favorite must have pieces so that you'll keep coming back to them and won't get bored easily #4 Accessorize, they are always more affordable and complete every outfit.

Necessary Object:: LBD revamped

We have all heard a million times that no wardrobe is complete without a Little Black Dress. Well here is to a new meaning for LBD :the Little Basic Dress. The same rules still apply for the LBD, it should still be simple, solid and sexy. It can be dressed up with a blazer and peep toe pumps or down with a denim jacket and ballet flats. During the summer the LBD can be worn with sandals and sunglasses and in the winter with sweaters and stockings. But why always black? Although it is classic, refined and elegant too much black can just be blah and boring. I know I am somewhat bias because I have always been a fan of color but I challenge you to replace black with BOLD color and I'm sure you won't go unnoticed this summer in your Little Basic Dress.

Checkout Shopbop for some of this season's cutest LBD's!!!

So Obsessed: Dany Platform

So here is the deal, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Jessica Simpson shoe collection. But who can't? She even wears them herself. The shoes are cute, affordable, and to make it all the better, super comfy. I bought my first pair of sky high platforms a while back and wear them with EVERYTHING. But when I saw Karen wearing the throwback 70's style Dany on her wheredidyougetthat.com blog, I knew I absolutely had to have them and have been lusting for them since. When I finally found them in March, I was too late, they sold out in less than 24 hours. So when the ad popped up on my iPhone while I was driving to Target, I immediately pulled over and submitted my order. I was more than ecstatic. Call me crazy but I had to have them. I plan on pairing them with cut off denim shorts and a boyfriend blazer but they would also be sixties chic with a ground sweeping maxi dress for the summer and guaranteed to keep your tosies rosie paired with thick socks this winter. I'll have my pair in black size 6 very soon and could not be happier :)

FIFA & Fashion

On June 11th, South Africa kicked of the 19th World Cup. Fans anxiously waited for the biggest sporting event in the world and apparently so did fashion. Designer Yohj Yamamoto looked to soccer player Zinedine Zidan for inspiration for his Adidas Y-3 spring/summer 2010 collection (watch the show here) and as expected Ralph Lauren polos can be found World Cup ready. Athletic brands such as Nike & Puma stocked up on international paraphernalia but some stores are providing more options for for the more feminine fans as well.

Fashion's involvement with sports should come as no surprise being an industry influenced by music, art, politics and so on but some brands are stepping out of the box and using this years World Cup as a way to keep fashionistas on the ball. This year BEBE launched a World Cup ad campaign featuring models playing in pieces from their collection.

LF stores have tees for 32 nations that they styled off the shoulder and paired with a cut off denim, Pretty Ballerina is prepared with patriotic ballerina flats and for the more fashion forward Christian Louboutin's tri color peep toe pump features soccer spirit.

But which designer has the most spirit? Louis Vuitton. They have launched "An Encounter With Greatness" ad campaign featuring Zidane, Pele and Mardonna, designed a monogrammed soccer ball duffel bag perfect for carrying all of this summer must haves and will light up your wrist with white gold and diamond soccer charms. Most importantly LV will literally take the trophy home in a 18ct gold custom travel case that was unveiled by the catwalk queen Naomi Campbell. I would have never expected fashion and FIFA to have so much in common but they have defintely taken a step in the right direction.

Red Carpet Watch: Award Worthy

What's a tell tale sign of the time? A red carpet recap. I don't usually tune in for many award shows but I never miss the red carpet coverage. No matter what the event you can always rely on celebrities to display whats hot (or maybe cold) on the fashion forecast. Its one of the rare occasions where a multitude of hot styles, and designers can mix mingle all in the same place. I've captured the talented and fabulous this month at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards and the CMT Awards.

Although I appreciate a great piece of couture or a vintage gown, I love the more relaxed dressed code at events like the CMT and MTV award shows. Its stunning, fun and wearable, everything seen here can be translated to your own wardrobe for a special occasion or a night out with the girls. Take a tip from Jessie James and trade in your LBD for summer solid such as white or blush. Stephanie Pratt embraced the opportunity to go crazy for color and you should too by picking a bold graphic print in a simple silhouette. But if Katy Perry's head to toe bling is to much for you? opt for some extra sparkle in your accessories. Whether you brighten up a room, bring the extra sparkle or keep calm with cool neutrals one thing we can all agree on is keep it short and sexy this summer and show off your sun kissed glow!

SATC 2

Like all Sex & the City fans I had been counting down the days til the Sequel hit theaters May 27. I headed to the the theater with in my very best Carrie-esque ensemble sporting a colorful strapless dress, stilettos and even put a bird on my head to celebrate its arrival. Although the SATC2 plot was lackluster the wardrobe delivered as always and I found myself wishing I could take a trip to a foreign land dressed as modern day Jasmine thanks to Patrica Fields and the unlimited access of designer clothing. As a self proclaimed Carrie I was more than envious of her attire through out the whole film but am now so very jealous of Sarah Jessica Parker's new found partnership with Halston. SJP has taken on design position for Halston Heritage, a less expensive (but still expensive) version of the signature collection Halston. Many of the pieces worn in the film were directly from the line and are readily accessible at sites such as net-a-porter.com, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's. Even though SATC2 took a back seat to Shrek and Prince of Persia in the box office, I am sure that it will be responsible for 2 things; a revival of Halston and more trips to Abu Dhabi.

P.S.
I wouldn't dare leave you without SATC2 style for all 4 of our favorites!!

Red Carpet Watch: Pant Perfect

I know I am late but I could not go without posting my favorite looks from the 2010 Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Benefit. I always know I can expect high fashion couture and lavish gowns from this event year after year but I found the red carpet ready pant suit very refreshing . These celebrities reached pant perfection this year with Chanel Iman gilded in gold (my personal favorite) by Michael Kors, Alexa Chung all tied up in 3.1 Philip Lim, Tina Fey is zipped up in YSL and Liya Kebede has gone glam in Rachel Roy.
